In order for Google Maps to be able to offer its service in full, the company must record and store data from you. This includes the search terms entered, your IP address and the latitude and longitude coordinates. If you use the route planner function, the start address you entered is also stored. However, this data storage happens on the websites of Google Maps. We can only inform you about this, but have no influence. Since we have integrated Google Maps into our website, Google sets at least one cookie (name: NID) in your browser. This cookie stores data about your user behavior. Google uses this data primarily to optimize its own services and to provide individual, personalized advertising for you.
The following cookie is set in your browser due to the integration of Google Maps:
Expiration time: after 6 months
Usage: NID is used by Google to customize ads to your Google searches. With the help of the cookie, Google "remembers" your most frequently entered search queries or your previous interaction with ads. This way, you will always get tailored ads. The cookie contains a unique ID that Google uses to collect personal settings of the user for advertising purposes.
Note: We can not guarantee the completeness of the stored data. Especially when using cookies, changes at Google can never be ruled out. To identify the cookie NID, a separate test page was created, where only GoogleMaps was integrated.
How long and where is the data stored?
Google servers are located in data centers around the world. However, most servers are located in America. For this reason, your data is also increasingly stored in the USA. Google distributes the data on different data carriers. This means that the data can be retrieved more quickly and is better protected against any attempts at manipulation. Each data center also has special emergency programs. For example, if there are problems with Google's hardware or a natural disaster affects the servers, the data is still very likely to remain protected.
Google stores some data for a set period of time. For other data, Google only offers the option to delete it manually. Furthermore, the company also anonymizes information (such as advertising data) in server logs by deleting part of the IP address and cookie information after 9 and 18 months, respectively.
How can I delete my data or prevent data storage?
With the automatic location and activity data deletion feature introduced in 2019, location and web/app activity information will be stored for either 3 or 18 months, depending on your decision, and then deleted. In addition, you can also manually delete this data from your history at any time via your Google account. If you want to completely prevent your location tracking, you need to pause the "Web and App Activity" section in Google Account. Click "Data and personalization" and then click the "Activity setting" option. Here you can turn the activities on or off.
In your browser, you can also deactivate, delete or manage individual cookies. Depending on which browser you use, this works in different ways. The following instructions show how to manage cookies in your browser:

If you do not want to have cookies in principle, you can set up your browser so that it always informs you when a cookie is to be set. This way, you can decide for each individual cookie whether you allow it or not.
12. Rights of the data subject
12.1 Data subject rights
The applicable data protection law grants you the following data subject rights (rights of information and intervention) vis-à-vis the controller with regard to the processing of your personal data, whereby reference is made to the stated legal basis for the respective exercise prerequisites:
- Right of information pursuant to Art. 15 GDPR;
- right to rectification pursuant to Art. 16 GDPR;
- right to erasure pursuant to Art. 17 GDPR;
- right to restriction of processing pursuant to Art. 18 GDPR;
- right to information pursuant to Art. 19 GDPR;
- right to data portability pursuant to Art. 20 GDPR;
- right to withdraw consent given pursuant to Art. 7(3) GDPR;
- right to lodge a complaint pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR.
12.2 Right of objection
If we process your personal data within the framework of a balancing of interests on the basis of our overriding legitimate interest, you have the right to object to this processing with effect for the future at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation. If you exercise your right to object, we will stop processing the data concerned. However, we reserve the right to continue processing if we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, fundamental rights and freedoms, or if the processing serves the purpose of asserting, exercising or defending legal claims. If your personal data is processed by us for the purpose of direct marketing, you have the right to object at any time to the processing of personal data concerning you for the purpose of such marketing. You can exercise the objection as described above. If you exercise your right to object, we will stop processing the data concerned for direct marketing purposes.
13. Rights of the data subject
The duration of the storage of personal data is determined by the respective legal basis, the purpose of processing and - if relevant - additionally by the respective statutory retention period (e.g. retention periods under commercial and tax law).
If personal data is processed on the basis of express consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) a DSGVO, this data is stored until the data subject revokes his/her consent.
If there are statutory retention periods for data that is processed within the scope of legal or quasi-legal obligations on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (b) DSGVO, this data will be routinely deleted after the retention periods have expired, provided that it is no longer required for the fulfillment or initiation of a contract and/or there is no legitimate interest on our part to continue storing it.
When processing personal data on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO, this data will be stored until the data subject exercises his or her right to object pursuant to Art. 21 para. 1 DSGVO, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override the interests, rights and freedoms of the data subject, or the processing serves to assert, exercise or defend legal claims.
When processing personal data for the purpose of direct marketing on the basis of Art. 6 (1) f DSGVO, this data will be stored until the data subject exercises his or her right to object pursuant to Art. 21 (2) DSGVO.
Furthermore, unless otherwise stated in the other information in this statement on specific processing situations, stored personal data will be deleted when it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or otherwise processed.
